El Club was so packed in the excitement of The Free Nationals to the point of not only being sold out, but overflowing from the staging area into the bar. That’s how much the people of Detroit are in love with the band. This was not lost on The Free Nationals, who came to the stage and realized just how many people were there to see them. I believe the phrase from one of the members was “DETROIT, YOU SHOWED UP!”
The Free Nationals, who got a lot of attention and fanbase after touring with Anderson .Paak is currently hopping city to city for sold-out shows in support of their self-titled album that features a ton of collaborations, including the song “Time” with Mac Miller. The album, released in 2019, is something you’d expect to hear in a boutique or local coffee shop, containing its chill yet invigorating vibe. A vibe that was carried onto the stage with its live depiction.
Described as retro-soul, the band brought the groove to an already limbered up crowd, courtesy of DJ Problematic Black Hottie prior to the band’s set. And with fans body-to-body getting their dance on, it was a great time to be had by all.
Check out the photos below, and be sure to take a listen to the full album wherever you snag your music. As of 4 days ago, each date for The Free Nationals is sold out with the exception of the Houston, Texas date – but that could have changed by now!
