If you haven’t heard of Poppy already, now’s your chance to get ahead of the curve.
I’m not one for trying to overextend my predictions, but can I be real with you for a second? Not to sound like some sort of hipster predictionist, but I saw it coming that both Fall Out Boy in their early days and Billie Eilish within the last few years were going to be HUGE, and leaned very heavily into the fact. So when I say that Poppy will be a name you know very soon, if you don’t already know it, is an understatement.
Donning what seemed to be a Men’s button-up shirt, platform shoes, a lace glove, and red lipstick, (who knows if this is a Robert Palmer or Shania Twain homage – or none of the above) Poppy hit the stage with her track “Concrete” and rounded out the end of the show with “I Disagree” of of the album of the same name (and the song that she performed on WWE’s NXT property). Not only was it an energetic and invigorating stage presence, but her fans also created the atmosphere.
Heard toward the end of the track “Concrete,” there’s audio of chanting fans. Her fans did not disappoint, donning her merch in the front few rows of standing only, and mimicking the same chant, beckoning her to the stage. Mixing Metal with Pop music isn’t something that too many people could do in a smooth fashion, but Poppy is able to deliver JUST THAT and more within her performance.
