Just after snagging the Hip Hop Album of the Year at the 2021 iHeart Radio Music Awards, Lil Baby has collaborated with Lil Durk to drop their newest project called The Voice of the Heroes.
The album, which features A-list rappers Travis Scott, Meek Mill, Young Thug, and Rod Wave also has been hyped because of its backer: NBA Superstar James Harden. He is listed as the executive producer on the album, and apparently played a large role in the the project due to how much time Lil’ Baby spent in his studio while recording.
The release comes with a mini-movie, Directed by Daps, to the new single “How It Feels,” which shows Lil Baby and Lil Durk participating in a high-end heist, redistributing goods from overly wealthy and glutinous 1% and returning the money to the younger generation in the streets.
I have only one gripe for the video (as a smaller director myself, with credits from MTV, BET, and VH1): If playing off the ‘Robin Hood’ narrative was supposed to echo through on the film, the kids at the end receiving the money should probably not be dressed in designer. It’s slightly distracting to the continuity and vibe of what you’re trying to illustrate.
