Dave Grohl Talks Disco Inspiration In New Paramount+ Show

Looks like Dave Grohl lifted quite a bit of his early drum style on Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind.’

In a new interview with Pharrell Williams on the Paramount+ series ‘From Cradle To The Stage,’ which according to AltPress “explores the relationship between musicians and their mothers.”

The episode in question shows the Foo Fighters vocalist speak on his love for drummers from Gap Band, Cameo, and CHIC.

“Stop saying that I’m a good drummer because I’m the most basic fucking drummer,” Grohl says. “If you listen to Nevermind, the Nirvana record, I pulled so much stuff from the Gap Band and Cameo and Tony Thompson [of CHIC] on every one of those songs…. It’s all disco. That’s all it is. Nobody makes the connection.”

Apparently, Tony Thompson did make the connection, and when Dave had a moment with him, it was confirmed. “He came to my house for a barbecue with somebody,” Grohl says. “I was like, ‘Man, I just want to thank you because I owe you so much. I’ve been ripping you off my whole life.’ He goes, ‘I know.’”

OOOOOOOPS. We’re sure Grohl laughed it off.
