A lot of the time, people are in awe of how things work when it comes to setting up a photoshoot, or they love the results and don’t realize how ridiculous it was to actually create those results.
This shoot, in particular, was extremely ridiculous to create and that’s why we’re sharing the “behind the scenes” of this one.
The Model, Prurient, had an idea to do a water-based shoot but we decided that we didn’t want to do it in a bathtub. Not only are they hard to get enough movement in unless you’ve got a huge jacuzzi tub, but something about having control over the backdrops inside it was super appealing to the both of us.
As far as the concept itself, it was inspired by some staple cards inside a Tarot deck, including cards such as “The World,” “Death,” “Star,” and more.
So she got a pool, a 10-foot one to be exact, and we got cracking. Did I mention this was going down in my garage (where I typically podcast from) because it’s like 11 degrees outside? With one heater on a stool? And my saint of a partner, Chuck, was carrying hot water down every half hour to warm up the pool?
Here’s a little look at how much room we had to work with:
As you can see, not much. This shoot ended up requiring me to climb up on a high-top table that we had to tape garbage bags to the legs and actually insert into the pool to get the right angle. Yes, ridiculous, but guess what? The best shoots are made of the strangest things.

Thanks to Prurient for always coming to me with the challenges. It always helps me brainstorm new ideas, constantly creating without being bored, and expanding my skillset with every shoot.
