Visual Stories: A little behind the scenes thoughts, knowledge and stories from the photoshoots ACRONYM does – because sometimes it’s pretty damn interesting.
When “Zephi” got in the car as we left Greektown, I joked that when we were kids, we were told not to get into the car with strangers, and now we literally beckon strangers into the car with us. Luckily we have mutual friends, so it’s not so weird.
Sometimes putting creatives together in a space doesn’t go so well, especially in Detroit. But then there’s a select few that mesh together perfectly, and by the end of the explore session, I felt as if I’d known her for years.
When doing modeling for a long time, you start to know what plays and what doesn’t. Especially when the world is oversaturated. What’s cool about Zephi is that she wants to create more than just what people see daily, which is why we decided to explore a little bit to find some new areas to play with, rather than do the same old “Look at me, I’m a hot tattooed girl” type shoot.
She likes to create multiple things, whether it be photography, hair, and even wigs. She shared that she would love to start making more creative hair pieces for extravagant fashion and that she could do that from home, as well as curate her modeling, and work on her photography with her boyfriend Wetiko. In addition to this, she expressed an interest in one day coaching other girls in modeling, feeling that after her years of experience, she could help with posing and know-how when it comes to the industry. Someone like that is something this world sorely needs with so many girls trying to break into modeling using social media.
What was also great about our adventure, is while we were creating, I was able to get a different side to her that I don’t see often in her photos. Trying to get the moments where she was smiling, smoking a cigarette, and just being herself, which made the shoot all the more fun, and was different than what people hire her to shoot.
Though she didn’t bring her camera on this trip, I gave her one of my lenses that I was hoping fit her camera, and can’t wait to go out again to shoot more photos in the future. Check out her modeling on Instagram here.
