In a Facebook Post, Detroit Comics’ owners Brian and Lori Kelly let everyone know the news.
MetroTimes had a phone call with Owner Brian Kelly, and said that it was “a lot of different reasons,” choosing t close the store.
With it being the local favorite in the Ferndale/Detroit area, it’s a bummer for those who frequent the shop. Love has been pouring out to the two owners on their Facebook announcement, which you can read below.
One of the things you must stress when it comes to Comic Book shopping is that shopping local is the bread and butter of the industry. There aren’t exactly comic book “chain” stores – unless you count Vault of Midnight, or any dual-named locations. If you purchase online versus a local store, it may be time for you to look into the locals and see if you can help someone keep their shop afloat. Just like local artists or entrepreneurs, they’re feeding families, paying bills, and making a living, all while distributing stories that help us bridge our minds to other worlds, universes, and otherwise making us feel super, as well as creating role models for the children who read them.
